There are 500 million people, worldwide, that are in “period poverty” and don’t have access to menstrual products. 50% of households with menstruating-age women don’t report expenditure on period products Sri Lanka has a population of 23M, 52% of whom are female, 80% rural. Sri Lanka ranks 73 on the Gender Inequality Index, but behind that figure stands a monthly challenge for the nearly 13 million women and girls – having their period of which nearly 10 million live in poverty stricken rural areas.
Full Stop Resources (FSR) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to combating period poverty for young women. We believe that the de-stigmatization of periods in rural communities will greatly impact a large number of young women. We offer free education programming and distribution of modern menstrual products. Our goal is to allow girls the luxury of choice of products by normalizing periods.
